SMALL ANIMAL / EQUINE ACUPUNCTURE COURSE

This 130-hour course is presented in 4 on-site sessions over a period of 9 months, from October 2010 to June 2011. Each session starts on thursday morning and ends sunday noon. Course of International nature, all classes wil be taught in English. This course is offered to licensed veterinarians and veterinary school senior students only. Students will learn acupuncture points on both small and large animals. Primarily dogs and horses are used for practice in the wet labs (some avian can also be included).

Major Topics

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Principles: Five Elements, Yin-Yang, Eight Principles, Zang-fu Physiology and Pathology, Meridians and Channels.
  • How to understand acupuncture: scientific basis.
  • 50 classical acupoints in horses and dogs: wet lab demonstration & hands on
  • 100 transpositional acupoints in horses and dogs: wet lab demo & hands.
  • How to needle the acupuncture points in dogs, cats and birds
  • How to needle the acupuncture points in horses.
  • TCM diagnosis systems including tongue & pulse diagnosis
  • How to integrate acupuncture into your practice
  • How to use veterinary acupuncture to diagnose and treat:
    • Musculoskeletal conditions, lameness and neurological disorders
    • Cardiovascular diseases and respiratory disorderss
    • Gastrointestinal disorders and behavioral problems.
    • Dermatological problems and immune-mediated diseases
    • Renal & urinary disorders and reproductive disorders .

  • Veterinary Acupuncture Techniques
    • Dry Needle (conventional needling).
    • Aqu-Acupuncture (point injection).
    • Electro acupuncture
    • Hemo-acupuncture
    • Pneumo-acupuncture
    • Moxibustion

Program Features

  • Limited seats, small lab group (5-6 members with one TA in a group), more hands-on learning in the wet lab.

  • 5. Awarded the Certificate of Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist registered at the Chi Institute and the China National Society of TCVM after fulfilling all requirements.
  • Practicality is highly emphasized during the entire program. The goal of each session is:
    • Session 1: Practice on own animals (cook book)
    • Session 2: Practice on client patients
    • Session 3: More efficiently practice acupuncture
    • Session 4: Daily integration of acupuncture
  • Balanced Learning Environments: Qi-gong or Tai-ji practice at the start of each day
