The Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine, Inc, was founded in Reddick, Florida 1998. The mission of the Chi Institute is to train our students to become competent animal health care providers, capable of practicing Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and other Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) skills. The Chi Institute the leading veterinary continuing education (C.E.) provider of TCVM. All the C.E. programs have been approved by the State of Florida and RACE.
Chi Institute Florida offers a wide training programs for vets (www.tcvm.com) . In 2007, due to the increasing demand, development and interest for Veterinary Acupuncture in Europe, Chi Institute of Europe is born to be able to offer the same training opportunities to their European students, but saving the expensive costs that studying at USA will mean to entail..
Over 1200 licensed veterinarians have graduated from the Chi Institute as of July 2007. They are now active and competent TCVM practitioners.
The chief instructor of the Chi Institute is Dr. Shen Huisheng Xie.
Dr. Huisheng Xie, DVM ,PhD
Dr. Huisheng Xie (pronounced "shay") received his DVM at the Sichuan College of Veterinary Medicine in China in 1983. In 1988, he received his Master of Science in Veterinary Acupuncture. From 1988 to 1994, he was an Assistant and Associate Professor in the Beijing Agricultural University College of Veterinary Medicine.
In 1999, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida for his investigation of the mechanisms of pain control in horses by using acupuncture. He is the Director of Veterinary Acupuncture Internship Program at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of the University of Florida now. He has been invited to lecture veterinary acupuncture and herbal medicine all over the world. He has published 10 books and over 100 scientific papers.
Dr. Xie is a third generation Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner who was born and educated in China. His teaching reflects a deep commitment to this way of life, and he specializes in making this rather complex information palatable and understandable to the western mind. After teaching university students these techniques for a number of years, he recognized the need to simplify and organize this information in a user-friendly way so as to clarify it to dovetail with the Western approach, and make it practical and useful for everyday application. In 1998, Dr. Xie founded the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida to train veterinarians in Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. Lorena Lloret, DVM,CVA
Dr. Lloret graduated DVM from Murcia University, Spain , in June 2002
In March 2004 obtained Veterinary Acupuncturist Certified by ABVA and University of Bristol, (UK) where she started to integrate Acupuncture on her daily clinic. On 2005 she get Acupuncture Veterinary Certified by Chi Institute and University of Chiang Mai, (Thailand) where she met Dr. Xie. In March 2006 went to UF (USA) as internship program TCVM with Dr. Xie, and obtained Advance Certified Chi Institute in TCVM Diagnostics, Classical Points and Advanced Acupuncture Techniques. In July 2006 was invited to participate in the 2nd International Training Workshop of TCVM offered by the Peopleļæ½s Republic of China Ministry of Science and Technology in Lanzhou, P.R. China
Nowadays works as TCVM practitioner of Small animals and Horses, with experience on exotic and wild animals covering Madrid area ( lorena@mvtc.es ), she offers TCVM as a complement for clinics and pet owners, reaching where occidental medicine stops
Dr.Lloret has published the 1st scientific paper about Acupuncture in Wild Animals, in Dec 2005. She has lectured over Spain and Europe for Chi Institute and others. She is translator and editor in chief of the new Spanish version of the book TCVM Volume 1 : Fundamental Principles written by Dr. Huisheng Xie and Vanessa Preast.

Dr. Antonio Alfaro, DMV, MSc.
Dr Antonio Alfaro graduated from Veterinary Medicine School of Federal University of Parana, Brazil. Recognized by the Registration Department, National University. Master of Science in Surgery, Anesthesiology and Radiology in Major Domestic Species. Also graduated from Veterinary Medicine School, University of Minnesota.
Certified Mixed Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA) in 2004 by Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine, Gainesville, Florida, USA. Re-certified by the College of Veterinarians of Costa Rica, 2006.
From 1983 to 2009, he specialized various courses in Chinese Medicine, including Advanced Techniques of TCVM, Herbology Courses, Dr. Tan's Basic and Advanced Courses by Chi Institute, etc
He has participated national and internationally as a speaker or instructor in TCVM Courses in Costa Rica and other countries. Dr. Alfaro is a world reference in the application and integration of TCVM and MVO in horses.
Currently he owns Acupuncture Clinic in Santa Ana and he is a professor from the National University.
Roger Clemmons, DVM, Ph. D, CVA
Dr. Clemmons received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and in 1973 and Ph.D in 1979, both from Washington State University.
He is the Associate Professor of Neurology & Neurosurgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida, and is a certified Veterinary Acupuncturist as well
He integrates veterinary acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutrition into his practice. He will be Speaker and teaching assistant at the Chi Institute Europe this edition 2010-2011

Dr. Connie L. Clemons-Chevis
Dr. Connie L. Clemons-Chevis is a 1986 graduate of Auburn University CVM and is certified in veterinary acupuncture, Chinese Herbology, Food therapy and Tui-na through Chi Institute in Gainesville, FL.
She is an acupuncture lab instructor for Chi Institute. Dr. Chevis has multiple publications on marine mammals and has made presentations in the US, China and Panama. She has a TCVM exclusive practice, Alternative Medicine for Pets and sees patients in Bay St. Louis and Gulfport, MS and in the Republic of Panama. She is the Attending Veterinarian for the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, Gulfport, MS and manages the veterinary care for all resident and stranded animals including dolphins, turtles and manatees.
She will be major speaker at Chi Institute Europe Class 2012, session 3.

Constance Di Natale , DVM
Dr. Constance DiNatale owns a holistic practice in Winter Park, Florida
She uses predominantly herbs, acupuncture, nutrition, and spinal manipulation to treat patients. She took the IVAS acupuncture course in 1989, and has studied and taught with Dr. Xie at Chi Institute since 1999. Her favorite things to do in her spare time are to spend time with her son, Valenttine, and to teach and learn at the Chi Institute.
She will be one of the major speakers on the Food Therapy Course offered next June 2011.

Carolina Medina, DVM, CVA, CVCH, CVT, CVFT, CCRT
Dr. Carolina Medina is originally from Caracas, Venezuela. She received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from St. George's University in 2005. The Chi Institute and China's National Society of TCVM granted her certification in Veterinary Acupuncture, Herbology, Tui Na and Food Therapy (2005-2006).
Dr. Medina completed a 14-month clinical internship in TCVM at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Huisheng Xie (2005-2006). In addition, she is the secretary and treasurer for the American Association of TCVM and an Associate Editor for the American Journal of TCVM. In 2010, she became certified in canine rehabilitation therapy. Currently, she works as a clinical assistant professor and service chief of the Acupuncture and Rehabilitation Service at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.
Karen L. Spracklen, DVM, CVA
Dr . Karen Spracklen is originally from Goshen, Indiana and received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Purdue University.
She was certified in animal chiropractic through the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association in 1996 and she completed certification in veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine in 1999
Karen owns the Holly Lane Veterinary Service, an equine practice entirely devoted to complementary therapies - primarily acupuncture, chiropractic, and Chinese herbs. In her spare time she enjoys Reading and dressage and dressage riding

Dra. María Suárez Redondo, CVA
Dr.SuÔrez graduated from the University of León in 2003 and received her PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 2008, awarded with "Cum Laude".
She is a Honorific Collaborator of the Medicine and Surgery Department of the UCM. She has authored and co-authored several scientific publications and has participated in national and international congresses and has been involved in several research projects.
She combines her acupuncture work with her job as a small animal soft tissue surgeon at the UCM Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She received her Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture from Chi Institute of Europe in 2009
She has participate as lab instructor and speaker in the 2009-2010 Chi Institute of Europe course and in the revision of the book "TCVM: Fundamental Principles" by Dr. Huisheng Xie and Vanessa Preast.
She has a special interest in pain management, spreading TCVM and integration of this specialty into daily practice
She is currently receiving education in Veterinary Chiropractic with the International Academy of veterinary Chiropractic (IAVC).

Cindy Wallis, DVM, CVA
Dr. Wallis is a 1988 graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she worked at the Brookfield Zoo and the Cincinnati Zoo before entering private practice. She took the CSU Acupuncture Course in 1997/98 and TA'd the course for 3 years after that.
She is IVAS certified and has been an examiner for the IVAS certification exam. She is certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy through the Healing Oasis
She has been studying acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and food therapy at the Chi Institute since 2002. She currently has a mixed animal practice in Colorado where her practice is exclusively acupuncture, chiropractic and Chinese herbal medicine

Jose Zilberschtein Juffé, DVM, PhD, CVA
He received his DVM degree in 1991 from the Collage of Veterinary Medicine of the Buenos Aires University, Argentina, Master of Science degree in Veterinary Acupuncture in 1995. Diploma in Advanced University Teaching in 1997, from the Buenos Aires University, Argentina
Diploma in Veterinary Rehabilitation from the Barcelona University, Spain in 1999 and obtained his PhD degree in 2002 from the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery Science at the University of Murcia, Spain; on his thaesis
"Anatomic, Histologic, and Thermographic characteristics of Acupoint Renzhong GV-26 in the Horse and their utility in Anaesthetic Recovery". First Doctoral thaesis in Veterinary Acupuncture in Spain. This Thaesis was awarded qualification excelling "Cum Lauden".
He received training in TCVM Continuing Education internship 2003/2004 from Dr. Huisheng Xie, DVM, MS, PhD in the College of Veterinary Medicine and in the Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital.Gainesville, Florida University, USA.
Dr. Zilberschtein was hired at the University of Murcia as an academic staff in the College of Veterinary Medicine in Medicine and Clinic Surgery Departament; as a clinical faculty member in the Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital of the Univerity of Murcia in the Surgery and Clinic Equine Service and the Acupuncture, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Service. He has given lectures at nacional and internacional meetings and Congress in diferents countries and continents, and is author and co-author of books and scientific publications
Dr. Zilberschtein became the first cliniciam of complementary and alternative veterinary medicine at a public university in Spain. He will be Speaker and Instructor at Chi Institute Europe in Madrid
